As you may know, for the last several years I’ve been involved with a passion project. It’s time to invite you on my journey.
It started one day in 2013 when I had a profound realization that millions of professionals age 50+ were being sidelined from the workforce. Now in 2019, despite current low unemployment rates, many can’t find steady work. Savings are depleted, and they struggle to keep their homes.
These aren’t the happy retirees you see on financial planning commercials. They’re your friends, family and neighbors who are hidden-in-plain-sight and embarrassed to tell you they’re broke.
But I realized the answer is also in plain sight: self-employment. It’s a big change for people who rely on a stable paycheck, so I co-founded and volunteer with a nonprofit program, BoomerWorks.org, so they can make the shift.
BoomerWorks is a nonprofit program revolutionizing the way experienced people think about generating income. As an alternative to traditional W-2 employment, we empower in-transition professionals ages 50+ to shift to freelance and small business ownership.
We are a fiscally sponsored program of United Charitable, a registered 501(c)(3) public charity, EIN 20-4286082. All donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
