| Word of the Day™ 12 Weeks to Get Happy Program I am so excited that beginning tomorrow, there will be a 12-week course using the Word of the Day™ Practice to help Latin American asylum seekers. The class will be teaching parents and children how to generate and maintain happiness through a series of Word of the Day™ tools. The class will be taught in both English and Spanish. It’s very exciting to be able to help people in such difficult circumstances. My colleague, Andres Valdez will be facilitating the workshop and you can find him on LinkedIn. ![]() The Word of the Day Practice Creativity Workshop I am so excited to be teaching the Word of the Day™ to a group of wonderful members of New York Women in Film & Television, an organization I have been a platinum member for many years and admire and respect. Conversation with a Blue Jay![]() I’m fortunate to live in an apartment with a terrace in the back of a New York City block. You would never know that you were in New York. It’s so quiet, except, of course, constant New York City sirens. I’d been sitting out on my terrace working, and when I looked up, a Blue Jay was sitting on the edge of the terrace, calmly waiting for me to put out some food, which I often do for the birds. The Blue Jay settled on a nearby tree branch, and I went back to work. A few minutes later, its mate appeared, and they somehow exchanged some of the food I had put out. It was very sweet and I was moved to look up Blue Jays. This link to the Audubon Society reveals that Blue Jays are very nice birds despite their reputation. They mate for life; the males are responsible fathers, providing food and nourishment, while the females give birth and look after the babies. They are a convivial group and often share feeding stations and flock together when it comes time for their new ones to take off and create a life of their own. This is the first time the Blue Jay has waited to be fed and eaten and then taken himself off to parts unknown. I was supposed to attend a fancy networking event, but I’m on a writing roll so I did not go. The writing is going OK, but the joy of having this kind of intimate conversation with a Blue Jay, a symbol of happiness and well-being was amazing. There is a moral to this story, is that I followed my own truth, which was to work on my book and was rewarded by the Blue Jays’ presence. |
