LanternTix Opportunity: Black Theater Night at the Public’s Sally & Tom

Hey Hey Hey Community Leaders!
We hope that this email finds you doing well! We are writing to you today with an offer that you can use personally or share with your community if you see fit. Please don’t feel any pressure to share as it is more of an individual sign up sort of thing, but wanted to extend if there was interest.

The Public Theater would like to invite HTE community members who identify to their upcoming Black Theater Night on April 24 at 7:00pm to see Suzan-Lori Parks new play Sally & Tom for $20. If you are interested in the show, outside the specific Black Theater Night, you can also sign up to receive a $40 code for the entire run. Sally & Tom is an edgy dramedy that celebrates the craft of theater while taking a hard look at history. It confronts the present and challenges the past with this ferocious new work about art, politics, and the contradictions that make all of us. Following this Community Performance there will be a post-show conversation with members of the company. To Sign Up, CLICK HERE!

ALSO, a friend of HTE is producing a play by Queen Esther and would like to offer free tickets to the HTE community! This offer is monitored by the WP team and not HTE, but please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

  • This week April 18-20th we begin performances for BLACKBIRDING, written by Queen Esther and directed by Lorna Ventura for WP’s Pipeline Festival. We’re excited to share a free ticket offer with you for this workshop production.
  • You may use THIS form to request your tickets. Free tickets are limited so reserve your seats soon.
  • About the show: Accompanied by banjoist/guitarist Ayodele Maatheru (Paradise Square, Shuffle Along, Lackawanna Blues), Blackbirding is a requiem for America’s neverending Civil War and the promise of Reconstruction, tangled in a Southern Black feminist vernacular.
  • Please note the content of this play includes conversations about sexual assault, rape, and racially motivated violence in the context of American History. The sound of a gunshot will also be heard in the play.

Ps. As a reminder, the forms are still open if you are interested in other upcoming events!

Apr 30 – May 12

Inspired by Sting’s “Desert Rose,” “Every Breath You Take,” “Roxanne,” “Fields of Gold,” and more of his greatest hits, this dance-theater sensation tells an uplifting tale of humanity and hope. Choreographer Kate Prince (Everybody’s Talking About Jamie) weaves Sting’s music together into an uplifting story of three siblings driven from their home by war, who must learn to persevere.  Featuring new musical arrangements by Alex Lacamoire (Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen), this contemporary and street dance-influenced work is a “triumph” and “will leave you giddy with joy” (Daily Express).

  • You’re invited to Community Night! $23 tickets are available for the Fri May 3 performance of Message In A Bottle in prime Orchestra, Grand Tier, and Mezzanine locations. Come early at 6:30pm, and join us for a free pre-show gathering in the Grand Tier Lobby to meet and mingle with artists, guest speakers, and each other.
  • Exclusive Matinee Offer! $23 tickets are available for Sat May 11 at 2pm in prime Orchestra, Grand Tier, and Mezzanine locations.

A bitingly funny, wildly imaginative new play by The Public’s Emerging Writers Group alumnus Ife Olujobi, JORDANS is a piercing exploration of assimilation, racial capitalism, success, and survival. At an overwhelmingly white workplace where appearance is everything, a long-suffering receptionist finds herself in personal, professional, and psychic jeopardy when her ruthless boss hires a hip new employee in an effort to improve the company’s image and “culture.” Suddenly, the two young, Black social climbers are forced together and torn apart by their race, ambition, and otherworldly circumstances. JORDANS is a story of identity mistaken, power subverted, and rage unleashed. Don’t miss this bold new play directed by Obie Award winner Whitney White about the true cost of “diversity” in the workplace.

Lila and her band, The Lonely Few, have a standing gig at Paul’s Juke Joint in their small Kentucky town. When an established musician, Amy, gives them a chance to join her on tour, they take it. Love blossoms between Lila and Amy on the road, but can it endure? THE LONELY FEW is a New York premiere rock musical about the forces that launch us from home and the gravitational pull that can bring us back. By award-winning composer ZOE SARNAK (A CROSSING, GALILEO) and RACHEL BONDS (JONAH; SUNDOWN, YELLOW MOON) and directed by TRIP CULLMAN (MCC Theater’s YEN, CHOIR BOY) and ELLENORE SCOTT (FUNNY GIRL, TITANIQUE).
