Calling All Brunchers, Songwriters, Singers

Greetings! Now that the smoke has cleared I’m enjoying glimpses of blue sky and puffy clouds. Wherever you are, I hope you’re safe and well.

Before anything else, thank you to everyone who filled in my survey (in the last newsletter). I’d love to hear from more of you about how you access music these days; your responses are entirely anonymous unless you choose to identify yourself. If you’ve got a couple minutes to spare, click on THIS LINK.

Last week, Ken, Michael, and I did our annual gig in the Poconos—indoors instead of in the beautiful garden because of the smoke, but we still had a great time. We always do, so if you’re in the New York area, come get in on the fun SUNDAY, JULY 2nd at the popular Jazz Brunch in Roz’s Room at North Square Lounge. It’s a holiday weekend, so there might be plenty of tables available or it might be packed to the gills; it’s anybody’s guess, but reservations are recommended. Call 212-254-1200 and be sure to say you want to sit in the music room. No cover charge. Full bar and brunch menu. And even if you don’t make reservation, come anyway—there’s always room for you! 103 Waverly Place, Greenwich Village, NYC.

A new class and a workshop coming up at California Jazz Conservatory online:

I last ran Songwriter’s Circle in 2021, and it was just wonderful. The participants, working in a number of musical genres, and ranging in age from 16 to 80, forged a beautiful bond, and everybody got songs witten. The class is designed so that it will benefit anyone from beginning to more experienced songwriters songwriters. Make This Song Mine! Singers, you know how it is: there are some songs you click with almost instantaneously, but there are also times you want or need to sing a song that’s harder to “get inside of”—and if you’re singing standards or other covers, making even a deeply loved song sound fresh and uniquely yours can present a particular challenge.  This quick workshop will help you deepen your connection to your songs. If you’re in the New York area June 17, I’ll be singing with Art Lillard’s Heavenly Big Band at Spoke the Hub’s Last Chance Dance Party. Come on over and dance. All the details are HERE.

FINALLY, I’ve already mentioned that I recently recorded a new album, and while the recording itself is finished, there’s a lot to do before it’s ready to be sent into the world (for the uninitiated: there’s a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff that happens before a new CD gets released; the actual recording is just the tip of the iceberg). In the meantime, it’s June, so please enjoy this song from a previous album of mine; just click on the rosy button below to listen on YouTube.
