The Legacy of Congresswoman Shirley ChisholmWith this most profound, relevant, and important moment, during Chisholm’s Centennial, Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm is the foundation for this moment in time for America. During Chisholm’s groundbreaking run in 1972, as the first black candidate for a major-party nomination and the first woman to run for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination, she understood all of our voices matter, going out to the college campuses, which was the first election 18-year-olds had the right to vote and spoke fluent Spanish mobilizing our Latino brothers and sisters to speak truth to power. Shirley’s vision of Education and Empowerment, Representation and Equality, Cultural Awareness and Inclusivity, and Reproductive Rights advocating for social justice, equality, and civil rights, were a few visions of Shirley.

Peace and Blessings,
