Fundraising for startups is a bear. (That’s the clean version) It takes you away from building your product. There’s no guarantee of success and with the ratio of ‘no’ to ‘yes’, you have to have really thick skin.
“It comes with the territory, / can’t stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen”. Yeh, we’ve heard them all. But it’s galling that the playing field is nowhere near level. Women founders and people of color are funded at criminally low rates. It’s not only wrong on an ethical level. It’s also dumb investing when you exclude people who have greater insights into markets than only one category of founder is likely to have. Let’s be part of the change we want to see.
