Bio: To some it might seem that Karen is a “late bloomer.” She completed her bachelor's and master’s degree in social work at age 59. She opened her counseling practice in her 60th year. It was the perfect next step in a career spanning more than 35 years of helping individuals, couples, and families navigate life’s transitions.
Karen has always had an entrepreneurial spirit. She helped establish the first freestanding birth center in Kansas. At the birth center, she taught childbirth preparation classes, supported families during the birth process, and facilitated parenting groups. She went on to establish a non-profit to bring the birth center programs into the community. As a health educator, she worked with young women experiencing unplanned pregnancies, moms wanting to raise strong daughters, women at mid-life, and people who had chronic or life threatening illness.
Desiring to be on the cutting edge of how best to meet the needs of women and families, she served on the board of directors of the International Childbirth Education Association and the National Association for Women's Health. It was during this time that she began speaking and writing professionally. She traveled the country educating corporate and health care audiences about how to have less stress and more energy. She's the author of Come Alive! 50 Easy Ways to Have More Energy Now, Taking Care of Yourself While Caring for a Loved One, and the Self Care blog.
Karen's life has come full circle. Professionally, she works with couples as they deal with the relationship struggles that accompany adding children to their family. Personally, she recently moved to Los Angeles to help her daughter and son-in-law with their three children under two. While she loves being a grandma, she is now contemplating her next professional adventure.
