Bio: Derek Herman is an Actor and Teaching Artist. Originally from the keep it weird city of Portland, Oregon. Derek got his start in theater at a young age acting professionally around the city. He was in the West Coast Premiere of Speech & Debate at Artists Repertory Theater as Howie. He moved to Chicago where he received his BFA in Acting from Roosevelt University's Conservatory program. After graduating, Derek founded Fearless Theater which highlighted the joys and perils of the teenage odyssey. Through his theater company, he was able to also tap into his love for philanthropic work and combined the shows produced with advocacy for charitable causes such as the Tyler Clementi Foundation, and the Youth Empowerment Performance Project. He worked for Emerald City Theater, Chicago's leading Children's Theater coordinating the One Fund. This program provided low-income schools the opportunity to have a book and performance come to schools. In Chicago, Derek performed at Chicago Shakespeare, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Raven Theater, and the Artistic Home. He now calls New York home where he is earning his Master's at NYU in Theater Education in Colleges and Communities. He has taught and directed for the NHSI "Cherubs" Theater Program at Northwestern, Acting Out, and Parker-Anderson Enrichment. As a print/commercial model, he can be seen in Harper's Bazaar, Gravity Blanket, Redbox, and Frames by Hubble.
