Bio: Dennis Yerry is a musician, composer, arranger and musical director whose career has encompassed a myriad of musical genres. Known primarily as a Native American composer and producer he has recently returned to his jazz / cabaret roots. Dennis is of Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) heritage and is well known in Native American music circles for his contemporary compositions incorporating traditional Native American music and instrumentation. He composed and musical directed the theatrical production of “Black Elk Speaks” in Denver, CO and L.A., in which he also performed. His film and TV credits include performances for the Ken Burn’s documentaries, “Lewis and Clark” and “The West”. As a pianist, he has played at such well-known venues in NYC as the Knickerbocker, the Waldorf Astoria, Tavern on the Green and the Sign of the Dove. Throughout his career he has been called upon to accompany a large variety of performers from Borscht Belt singers to tap dancers and comedians. He is currently the Director of World Music for the Phoenicia Festival of the Voice and Musical Director/Composer for Unto These Hills, the outdoor drama in Cherokee, N.C. He also is an adjunct music instructor at Dutchess Community College in Poughkeepsie, teaching jazz piano and improvisation as well as Native American flute.
