Renowned journalist and political commentator Cokie Roberts died this week at the age of 75, due to complications from breast cancer. Roberts won countless awards, including three Emmys, at a time when few women held prominent roles in journalism. She was inducted into the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame and was cited by the American Women in Radio and Television as one of the 50 greatest women in the history of broadcasting. She was named a “Living Legend” by the Library of Congress in 2008. Roberts joined an upstart NPR in 1978 before later going to ABC News.
Growing Bolder Radio was thrilled to welcome Roberts to our program in 2009 to discuss her book, “We Are Our Mothers’ Daughters.” We proudly present this encore presentation of our conversation with one of our nation’s most thoughtful, intelligent and insightful journalists. Take a listen and learn more about her passion for highlighting important stories and hear her candid take on her frustration with women’s lack of representation in positions of power.

Thirty-five years ago this week, fighter pilot, daredevil and American aviation hero Joseph P. Kittinger Jr. made aviation history when he became the first person to cross the Atlantic Ocean, solo in a balloon.
On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of this historic event, we paid a visit to Col. Kittinger’s home, where he shared stories of his big adventure (and some lovely wine and cheese!) Click here to reminisce with a true American pioneer.
