For those in Atlanta,I hope you can join me this coming Monday, August 4, for the reading of “Burning Powerful Women.”
This four-women play will be presented by the Fern Theatre as part of their new play developmental series. The play is written by Hank Kimmel (oh, me) and features a stellar cast: Daryl Fazio, Judith Beasley, Chelsea Stevenson, and Jessica Fern Hunt. The reading is being directed by Nichole Palmietto, who is developing a reputation as being one of the best new directors in town.
The play takes place at Horizon Theatre in Little Five Points at 7:30 p.m. The running time for the play should be about an hour. There will be a talk-back after the reading. There is a suggested donation of $5. Light refreshments will be served.
Iowa 1962. The cusp of the feminist and sexual revolutions. Mary Jo Brickner, the high school valedictorian, is about to get married until the BPW, a secret order of women (think 3 Witches of MacBeth), infiltrate Mary’s private thoughts and force her to re-imagine the future. A fractured fairy tale about the coming of age in the heart-land of America.
For those familiar with this play, I’ve changed a major element– which I hope will increase the resonance of the play. There are a couple of elements I need to develop further, and the audience input will be enormously useful.
