How We Got Here

The Foundation was funded from the Estate of Florence Belsky, a woman who supported the arts during her lifetime and who sincerely believed in the power networking. Ms. Belsky was both a teacher and a student and the New School Institute for Retired Professionals, a mentor for Brooklyn Law School students and a lifelong champion of educational opportunities.

Ms. Belsky was foremost a philanthropist. She was a patron of the Metropolitan Opera, the New York Public Library, the Ellis Island Wall of Honor and the Metropolitan Museum of Art and many others. She established scholarships at Hunter College, Elderhostel, the New School Institute for Retired Professionals, Julliard School of Music and the Guilio Opera Foundation.

Ms. Belsky formed the Florence Belsky Charitable Foundation to support such diverse projects as opera scholarships to children’s arts programs to new theatrical productions.
