Gabe Dettre is an award winning writer/director producer who has filmed in (chronologically): the USA, Hungary, France, Switzerland, Estonia, Russia, Israel, Algeria, Mali, Poland, UK, Holland, Thailand, Germany, Albania, Chile, Italy, Croatia, India, Syria, Yemen among others. He has served as the director of the Sight and Sound Department (sophomore year) at New York University, Tisch School of the Arts and an editing teacher (1982-84)As the owner of Hunnia Theatre and Café, a movie-house which is more like a cultural meeting place for the youth Budapest (1994-2005) he organized several cultural events, national filmweeks (Iranian, Chinese, Estonian, Sarayevo Filmweek, etc.). He is a Member of the Executive Committee of the Hungarian Association of Filmmakers, and has held international work-shops in directing, screenplay-writing and acting and has been teaching at two universities. Gabe has won approximately twenty international awards, among them the Cine Eagle of the Motion Picture Association of the United States of America, an Oscar nomination for Best Actress Award (Sally Kirkland for Anna) for Gabe’ producing debut, the Tolerance Award, the Award of the City of Rome, the Cinecitta Award, and many Hungarian ones, like Best Hungarian Film Awards and three Critics’ Awards for Best Film in Hungary as well as the Béla Balázs Award of the Ministry of Culture of Hungary. Gabe was selected for Best European Director Award (Felix Price), and his film (Cloud over the Ganges) for Best European Feature (Felix Price) Most recently, his feature (Tableau) won Best Screenplay Award at the Syracuse International Film Festival, in Syracuse, USA. His films have been invited to some of the most prestigious festivals around the world, among them to: New Directors New Films, NYC, Karlovy Vary, Mar del Plata, Seattle, Wiesbaden, Nyon, France, Porto, Portugal etc. Gabe is a graduate of Law School, Pécs, Hungary, and of New York University, Tisch School of the Arts, New York, USA.
